PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To enhance the camper's experience at Clearview Christian Camp, while taking responsibility for their health, safety, well-being, and spiritual development.

 

DURATION:

We are flexible in duration.  Full time would be 7 weeks but we are also looking for 1 week positions and are willing to accommodate more complex schedules. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Live in the cabin with 10 – 12 campers.

  • Get to know each camper personally by spending one-on-one time with them.

  • Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving in the group.

  • Assume responsibility for the health and welfare of campers entrusted into his/her care.

  • Assume responsibilities for leadership and guidance to the campers in daily living, with special attention to:

    • - personal hygiene and safety

    • - camper participation in cabin and all-camp activities

    • - cabin cleanliness

    • - meals

  • Share your Christian faith with the campers through living and learning experiences, especially at teachable moments, and encourage spiritual growth. Find an opportunity with each camper to discuss their spiritual questions or interests.

  • Serve as a positive Christian model to campers in language, actions, and attitudes.

  • Organize and lead daily devotions with the cabin group.

  • Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance in building community in the cabin, with special attention to:

    • - building up the self-worth of individuals

    • - facilitating relationships between campers

    • - camper participation in planning, decision-making, and sharing duties.

    • - encouraging a high level of morale

  • Integrate developmentally or emotionally challenged campers into the cabin group with the help of the weekly Director.

  • Assume responsibility for interpreting the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp to the camper and obtaining camper cooperation with same.

  • Implement informal programming with own cabin group during free time.

  • Supervise and encourage any Junior Counselors placed in the cabin.

  • Complete all evaluations and forms as requested by the Hiring committee.

  • Complete the tasks given by the weekly Camp Director.

  • Attend Orientation Weekend.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Develop a good working relationship with the camp director, volunteer staff, and kitchen staff.

  • Provide leadership and support to fellow counselors.

  • Provide guidance, supervision, and support to all campers.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interested in working with youth in a group living situation.

  • Interested in developing personal leadership skills.

  • Possess strong character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control

  • Able to work well on a team.

  • Able to communicate effectively with campers and staff.

  • Able to accept supervision and guidance.

  • Able to assist in teaching and leading an activity.

  • CPR A is mandatory (however if you do not currently have this, the camp board will pay for you to take this course should you be hired)

  • First Aid Training and Lifeguard training are considered an asset.
